Dear students,

Izmir University was founded as a result of the efforts of the Doğanata Education and Culture Foundation in 2007 as the third foundation university in Izmir, and started its education process on the academic year 2008-2009.

With a history of 8500 years, Izmir, which has been home for many civilizations, is Anatolia’s window opening to the west as the most contemporary and modern city of our country. Izmir University, founded at the heart of the city with the aim of raising individuals integrated with their country and closely following worldwide developments; has adopted integration with the society as its main philosophy with an understanding to serve the community, and embraced the principle of lifelong learning in line with this aim.

The increasing number of universities in our country necessitates offering education services at the highest level and carrying out coordinated scientific studies with the world. We are targeting to remain among the leading universities in our country with our distinctive and contemporary teaching methods. In accordance with this target, all departments of the university have been chosen with care, considering the workforce demanded by the industry; aiming to offer high quality education so as to meet the requirements of the era and keep up with change. Foreign language training which is provided during the first year at each faculty will continue in the following years to support professional training. Our biggest ideal is to raise individuals capable of processing information gained through training provided at international standards, transforming it into knowledge and using it, inclined to teamwork, and able to produce problem-solving projects while questioning life. In achieving all of these objectives, we aim to reverse the brain drain, which has been experienced for the past decades by continuing to recruit equipped faculty members both in terms of their publications and projects.

The main philosophy of Izmir University is to become a research oriented university that gives importance to graduate training as well as undergraduate training. In order to have a say in the international arena, it is necessary to devote all resources of the university to education, keep the permanence of the industry-university cooperation, give emphasis to research and development by bringing together the faculty members selected according to universal criteria and outstanding students, contribute to the developments in science and technology and present them to the service of humanity, and cooperate with external education and research institutions. A few years from now, our students will have the privilege of being the graduates of a university whose education and research quality has been recognized nationally and internationally.

Our university, which aims to raise the ndividuals who will undertake the future of powerful Turkey, will fulfill its obligations as the modern face of higher education in order for our youngsters to look to the future with confidence and hope.
