Handicapped Students’ Unit and Services |

Izmir University Handicapped Student Union was established on Mach 10, 2009. Some of the services that is offered to our handicapped students are:
- Special applications in lessons and exams for handicapped and the special care needed students
- Handicapped Student Union and academic units has to cooperate with each other and this is an important requirement for the handicapped students (visually, physically handicapped, hearing impaired, attention deficit and hyperactivity) at faculties. Within this framework, each faculty and graduate school has Handicapped Student Academic Advisor in order to support related students.
- During the construction of our university’s building all kinds of physical configuration was done in order to meet the needs of handicapped students. The details can be found out from Physical Information Report of Campus.
- To determine the needs of each handicapped student, questions, opinions and suggestions were asked to get information for the unit and this information is conveyed to the administrative unit.
- One of the suggestions related to the use of sports center with an attendant is accepted.
- In the exams, handicapped students’ requests were taken into consideration and special applications are done. (For instance; for visually handicapped students big font size papers were prepared. Students were taken to the exam with the instructor’s help. For the physical handicapped students, according to the student’s disability appropriate building and classes were arranged.)
- For visual disabled students, a special room is arranged in the library. Library announces and brings together the volunteers who read the necessary books for the visual disabled students. Additionally, necessary library use and services are given.
