Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation aims to activate the fields of physiotherapy and rehabilitation in enhancing public health and quality of life. Remarkable developments were observed in the field of physiotherapy in the 20th century. Physiotherapy is an academic health discipline, characterized by scientific information regarding the body’s movement function rather than the methods used. The department intends to educate professional physiotherapists respecting human rights, professionally and scientifically competent, having professional self-determination, able to think critically, producing and sharing scientific knowledge, conducting multidisciplinary studies in the light of universal and cultural values. Physiotherapy’s improvement parallel to the society’s changing demands (increase in elderly population, obesity, and other chronic illnesses caused by sedentary life style, etc.), rise in the expectations concerning quality of life, public’s increasing awareness towards physiotherapy and rehabilitation results in growing demand for physiotherapists in Turkey.
A 4-year course comprises of an educational training on theoretical and practical anatomy, physiology, psychology, physics, biology and genetics, histology, sociology, pathology, nutrition, general internal medicine, clinical orthopedics, vocational lectures, orthesis and rehabilitation, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, manipulative treatment, neurosurgery, pulmonary rehabilitation, obstetrics and gynecology, kinesiology, pediatric/orthopedic rehabilitation, occupational therapy, water exercises, neurologic rehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation, research methodology and problem solving in physiotherapy.
