What are the conditions for application of foreign students? Does Izmir University administer a separate exam for foreign students?

Izmir University does not administer a separate exam for foreign students. Applications are evaluated based on the foreign student's national exam results / grades, or internationally recognized test results.

I took an exam for foreign students at University X in Turkey. Can I use this result for my application to Izmir University?
No, Izmir University does not evaluate foreign student applications based on exam scores of other universities.

What is the duration of undergraduate programs in Turkey?
The duration of undergraduate degree programs in Turkey is 4 years.

What is the language of instruction at Izmir University?
The language of instruction is English and Turkish. Please check the quotas table to find out the language of instruction in the department you will apply.

Is the English language preparatory year compulsory?
English prep year is compulsory for English medium departments. Students take the English Proficiency Exam held by the School of Foreign Languages and those who cannot get the minimum required point study English prep year. Those who pass the exam can directly start their undergraduate studies.

Can I stay in the dormitory?
Yes, but since places are limited, please inform the International Relations Office as early as possible.

Can I work and study at the same time?
No, a student visa in Turkey does not allow you to work. However you may do part time duties in the university or volunteer jobs.

Are your diplomas recognized abroad?
Recognition is granted by the official educational entity of each country. All Turkish universities are affiliated by the Council of Higher Education on Turkey, and entitled to the Bologna Process.

How can I get a visa and residence permit?
If you are accepted, Izmir University will send you a letter of acceptance. With this letter, you may apply to the nearest Turkish Embassy or Consulate in your area to get your visa. You need to register for your residence permit at the Police Department Foreigner's Office within one month of your arrival date. The International Relations Office will assist you with the necessary documents and procedure.
